Thomas’s Academy is supported by a Board of Governors who provide a wealth of experience from the independent and state education systems, from local and central Government and from the world of business. They support and challenge the Academy to develop a truly outstanding offer for local children.
Andrew Fenwick (Chair)
Andrew co-founded Brunswick in 1987 and is Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1984 with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and attended Harvard Business School's Program for Management Development in the spring of 1992. He is a non-executive director of Fenwick Limited, a non-executive director of the Royal Parks Agency and a founding Trustee and Deputy Chairman of the Royal Parks Foundation. Andrew has been Chair of Governors at New King’s since 1992, he has continued as Chair of Governors at Thomas’s Academy and is Chair of the Finance Committee.
Tobyn was educated at Wellington College and attended the University of Grenoble, France. He has extensive work experience including theatre production, publishing, futures and options, public relations and media management. Prior to joining the schools in 1992, he ran the media operation of the XVI Universidad in Sheffield, one of the largest multi-sports events ever held in the UK, and the French operation of the 1991 Rugby World Cup. Tobyn is the elder son of David and Joanna Thomas, who founded Thomas's, and is brother to Ben Thomas. He originally joined Thomas’s in 1992 as Director of Administration. He has been a Principal since 1995. Tobyn is also a trustee of the CAIRN Trust and is Vice Chair of the Governing Body at Thomas’s Academy.
Ben was educated at Eton College and Durham University, where he read English. He also holds an MA in Education from the Institute of Education. After teaching in Lesotho, Southern Africa, he spent two years working in investment banking before joining Thomas's London Day Schools. Ben is the younger son of David and Joanna Thomas and is brother to Tobyn Thomas. He has been a Principal since 1995 and Headmaster of Thomas's, Battersea for the last 16 years. Ben is a Governor of St Paul's School, a Fellow of Wellington College, a trustee of the CAIRN Trust and the Katherine Low Settlement and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Ben is Chair of the Education Committee at Thomas’s Academy.
Pat is the Interim Director for the White City Enterprise. She has 35 years’ experience working in Hammersmith and Fulham, with 15 of these years in the local authority as Head of the Early Years and Childcare Service, and Interim Head of the Community Investment Team. She also has over 20 years’ experience in the voluntary sector and has chaired the London Heads of Early Years and Childcare Network. Pat has been a Community Governor at New King’s since 2012, she has continued as a Governor of Thomas’s Academy, is Chair of the Personnel and Policies Committee and is the lead Governor with regards to Safeguarding at the school.
Sam has founded and run a range of successful businesses in the UK and USA. Before this he was a lawyer, having worked for the magic circle law firm, Allen & Overy LLP. He was educated at Durham University, BPP Law School and the College of Law. Sam joined as a Governor at New King’s in 2012 and has continued as a Governor of Thomas’s Academy. He is Chair of the Buildings and Services Committee and is lead Governor with regards to inclusion at the school.
Carol has worked for Thomas’s London Day Schools for over 17 years, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in June 2005, now working as the Finance Manager for the Thomas’s group. She brings with her the experience of running her own business, successfully supporting her three daughters through to university education and that of being a Governor for St John’s Primary School in Southampton.
Chris joined Thomas’s in January 2010 as Personnel Manager. She leads the HR team at the Ringwood Administration office. She has responsibility for all personnel matters relating to 500+ staff, including ensuing safer recruitment guidelines are adhered to. She holds a Certificate in Personnel Practice and a NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety. Chris has over 14 years’ experience within the field of Human Resources.
Ewa was born in Poland and obtained an MA in Chemistry with specialisation in teaching from the University of Natural Science and Humanities in Siedlce, Poland. Ewa has been living in the UK since 1993. She has four daughters, two of whom attend Thomas's Academy.
Kathrin has recently joined the Governing Body as a Parent Governor. Kathrin trained as both a Chef and a Childcare worker in Germany. She previously worked in German Saturday School in Bayswater, and was Director of a German playgroup (Heidi and Peter) in Knightsbridge. Kathrin has three young children, two of whom attend Thomas’s Academy.
Clare completed her teaching degree at Liverpool in 2002. Clare joined New King’s Primary School in 2007 as a Key Stage 2 class teacher. As her time progressed at NKS, Clare took on responsibilities such as SENCo, Inclusion Manager and Assistant Head teacher. Clare was appointed as ‘Deputy Head teacher for Curriculum and Inclusion’ in 2014 and enjoys working and liaising with pupils, staff and our children’s families to ensure that the curriculum and opportunities we offer at Thomas’s Academy are relevant and engaging for life in today’s world and the future.
Ruby’s background is in community education, public service management and policy development. She is Head of Strategy, Development and Local Innovation at White City Enterprise. Previously she was seconded as a special advisor to the Department for Communities and Local Government to lead the corporate turnaround on the Commission on Integration and Cohesion. She also led the Local Government peer review programme into reducing administrative burdens on schools. Ruby Dixon acts as an independent member of the Thomas’s Academy Trust and whilst technically not a Governor, she similarly offers her support and challenge to the school.
