Welcome to Thomas's Academy Nursery

Our Nursery provides a safe and nuturing environment which allows your child to develop in all areas of their learning, and which understands each individual child's needs and background. We believe that with this support, children will be best placed to go on to reach their full potential as they move into primary education.

What do you offer?

Each September, Thomas's Academy enrols children aged 3 into the Nursery. If there are places available in January, further enrolments take place. We offer full-time places (30 hours per week) from 8.45am to 3.15pm, Monday to Friday, during term time. We also offer part-time places (15 hours per week) in the morning from 8.45am to 11.45am.

What does it cost?

All children aged three and four are entitled to 15 hours of free nursery education. An additional 15 free hours are available to parents who meet the criteria. For a child to access five full-time days over the week, we ask that parents spend their full childcare allocation with us. Further information about eligibility for childcare,  along with a childcare calculator, can be found here.

Parents who are not eligible for the 30-hour code and require a full-time place will be charged for the additional 15 hours. The charge is £150 per week, which will be billed termly and calculated according to the number of days the nursery is open each term, not on the child's attendance.

The school office will require a valid eligibility code or a deposit of £100 upon acceptance of a full-time place. Any deposits will be deducted from the last month’s fee.

Full-time children usually have a school meal, which is currently £2.80 per day, that must be paid at least weekly (£14) in advance.

Wrap-around care (8am - 8.45am and 3.15pm - 6pm) is available for a further charge. Please contact the School Office for further details.

Statutory Consultation on Proposed Change to Admissions Arrangements for 2027-28

The Quality First Education (Q1E) Trust welcomes any views on proposed changes to the admission arrangements for Thomas’s Academy for 2027-28, i.e. for entry to the school from September 2027.

The Trust is proposing the following changes to the admission criteria:

  • To remove priority given to current nursery pupils, for reception places

We believe that prioritising reception applications from pupils currently at the school nursery may prevent other parents from applying. We have also received feedback that this criterion causes confusion for nursery parents, who may not be clear that they have to apply separately for a reception place.

  • To give priority to the children of staff at the school (after siblings of current pupils)

We believe that the quality of teaching (and teachers) is the single biggest factor in ensuring an excellent education for the children in our schools. We seek to support the recruitment, retention, work-life balance and wellbeing of the staff in our schools, by enabling them to have their own children at the school if they wish. We do not expect this to have a material impact on admissions, as the school staff team is very small.

The member of staff must have been employed at the school for at two or more years at the time at which the application to the school is made, or be a member of staff who was recruited to fill a vacant post for which there was a demonstrable skill shortage.

The consultation will run from Monday 15 December 2025 to Friday 30 January 2026. During this period, the full draft admissions policy for 2027-28 is available on the school website here and paper copies can be provided from the School Office on request.
